Perception Responds
Ah, don’t you just love it when the biggest news around a new game in development is the current legal actions underway and bickerings between developers and publishers. I guess it re-enforces the notion that in the end it’s all just business.
Anyway, if you weren’t already aware Perception PTY LTD, developers of Stargate SG-1: The Alliance, have responded to JoWood’s press release last weekend announcing termination of their contract with the company. The press release can be found here.
Sydney, Australia, 12th of August, 2005; Perception Pty Ltd would like to rectify certain statements that have been made to the press by JoWooD Productions. To be clear, Perception is the official licensee of MGM on Stargate SG-1: The Alliance. Any suggestion that JoWooD has rights to Stargate SG-1: The Alliance upon termination of the contract is incorrect and not based on commercial or legal fact.
In related news there is an interview with Viljar the Lead Designer on SG-1: The Alliance at The5thRace.net and includes some new screenies.
Multiple Positions at Pandemic Studios

- Programmer

- Junior 3D Artist (modeler/texturer)
- 3D Character Artist (modeler/texturer)
- 3D Artist (modeler/texturer)

JoWood Dumps Perception
The publisher funding Sydney company Perception’s development of Stargate-SG1: The Alliance has cancelled the title, citing a lack of confidence in Perception’s ability to finish the project on time and at sufficient quality. JoWood is maintaining their rights to the game and all source code, and are pursuing the return of their original investment as well as costs from the Sydney company. The future of the game is uncertain, but Jowood is considering the possibility of moving it to next-gen consoles.
The Truth About Games and Violence
Apparently the effect of violence in games isn’t as damaging as the political rhetoric would have us believe. Who would have thought?
ACMI event: Modding and Game School
Modding and Game School - great ways into the Video Game Industry!
To be a video game developer it is essential that you love dissecting games. Modifying (modding) games, and learning game creation are two great ways to clearly see the pieces that make up a game. And they are fun too.
In this forum Damian Scott will discuss video game modification or ‘modding’ focusing on his work as a prominent Mod developer over the last 7 years. Cheryl Kiraly will talk you through her experience studying and graduating from the Academy of Interactive Entertainment in Canberra in 2004 working as Lead Programmer for the game Roach Rage, which won an award at AGDC for Best Unsigned Game (Indie) Runner Up.

GTA Sex Controversy
“Best-selling game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is being investigated in the US over reports that it contains sexually explicit mini-games hidden in its code.”
And by that they mean, a fan created mod.
It’ll catch on here within the next few weeks. Why not save time and just ban all games… I give up.
