i feel your pain monty, theres been very few games released in many years that have the same essence as what the old games have, games such as tomb raider 1,command and conquer, spec ops, syphon filter and final doom(all 5 being ps1 titles),oh and 007 on the nintendo 64,thats my opinion many may disagree, isnt it odd how far games have come since then ,now so few other games have the same luster as old titles.
the movie market has the same issue, only due to the world itself being so lacking in imagination or are afraid of the abstract.
i find myself in a position where making games is more exiting than playing games...very odd i know, maybe we are just getting old and tired of it,you wouldnt pick up your old teddy bear and play with it how you used to when you were 3 years old..would you?..lol..but you may consider making a teddy bear, even in 3d.
theres plenty more idea's out there,so dont fret,i got lots up my sleeve, funny enough alot of my idea's were created while the ps1 was big,and no one has used them yet,a few close calls though ..lol
the only game thats caught my eye lately is the "age of connan" on the dreamweaver engine, looks like 1 thats got some longevity in it.
anyhoo i really enjoyed your article, made me realise i wasnt the only one strugling with the current games on the shelf.
lets hope we see a change soon,so get your imagination cranking!
