WoW Release Date/Fee Announced
Blizzard have finally announced the release date for World of Warcraft, confirming the previously leaked November 23 and ending months of public relations subterfuge. The game will release simultaneously in North America, Australia, and New Zealand, which is a boon for Oceana players and possibly the first time we have been included in the front runners for any major games release ever. Korea, Europe, and other Asian countries will follow “shortly after”. After years of intimating WoW will operate on a price structure significantly lower than other games, Blizzard also announced a monthly fee that brings it into line with the most expensive games on the market - US$14.99 per month.
The increased price is disappointing, less for the actual cost than for the half-truths it makes of Blizzard’s PR statements over the past three years. Coupled with the rash of significant design reversals during the last 18 months of WoW’s development, it serves notice that today’s Blizzard is not the quite the same company that it was before the loss of Blizzard North last year.
