Imaginary Numbers Hiring in Sydney
Luke Carruthers has sent along word of an opening for a software engineer at the Sydney office of Imaginary Numbers.
Imaginary Numbers is a newly formed - and fully funded - studio based in Sydney, Australia. With a small team of experienced developers, the company is focused on market segments that the larger publishers aren’t well-equipped to target effectively. Its first title is a persistent world tactical RPG, making heavy use of instancing, that avoids the treadmill traditional to MMO character development, and changes the “hit ‘a’; get coffee” formula of combat.
We’re looking for a software engineer to join our team. The position will suit someone who is smart, reliable, hard-working, organised and proactive, who has a get-it-done approach, who can work well in a team, and who is looking for a career, not just a job.
The role will focus on client development, using a 3D game engine, but will be directly involved in all aspects of the game, including server, tools, and database development. Previous game development experience is preferred, and experience with a commercial 3D game engine will be very useful.
The successful applicant must have excellent expertise in:
- MSVC++
- Debugging
- Using a Version Control System
- Written and Verbal Communication Skills
Additionally, one or more of the following will be highly regarded:
- Real-Time Graphics Programming
- Experience with Developing for Linux/UNIX
- Relational Database Programming
- Network Programming
- Experience with a 3D game engine
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science
Based in Sydney, this role will report to the Lead Programmer, and will offer a salary commensurate with experience. Please note that only applicants legally allowed to work in Australia will be considered for this position.
Please send applications including CV to careers@imaginary-numbers.com, quoting reference b4811.

Sounds like my dream job, except it’s on the other side of the planet from me! Oh well!
