Priorities
I am both honoured and proud to finally bring Bigkid.com.au into the wider internet community by posting a fine example of full-frontal nudity.
The merciless slog of end-of-project madness continues. One day I’m going to find the person responsible for putting all the long weekends in the first part of the year and do horrible things to them. Maybe I’ll force them to work as a games developer.
By the way, to all those people out there bravely avoiding dull, real-world jobs while pursuing their dream of working in the games industry - listen to me very carefully. No-one is constantly buoyed by the sheer joy of expressing themselves creatively. It doesn’t matter what you do, it will become a slog. It will become a chore. You may as well get some practise flipping burgers because no matter what you do, you will need the ability to grit your teeth and keep on working. Don’t go for a job in the games industry because you want a fun job and like being different to other people. Do it because you burn to do it, because you can’t possibly not do it. There will be times when you will need every scrap of passion and enthusiasm to keep going.
It also helps if you handle sleep deprivation well.
Oh, and drinking beer seems to help. I wouldn’t know personally as I don’t touch the stuff myself but my fellow employees seem to really benefit from it’s regular consumption.
Having said all that there are times when it is as good as you imagined it would be. Even if you have trouble remembering them from time to time.

This one fits nicely with the IGDA’s latest paper. ;)
