Vanguard MMORPG Announced

Everquest co-creator Brad McQuaid has finally lifted the lid on the new project he has been nurturing since leaving SOE under somewhat contentious circumstances two years ago. After setting up Sigil Games Online with fellow ex-EQers Jeff Butler and Keith Parkinson, he has now joined forces with Microsoft no less to offer Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, a “vast, detailed world of swords and sorcery, of dragons and knights, of fiery swords and chests overflowing with treasure…” I’m not sure the online world needs another fantasy RPG, however they claim aspirations to being high fantasy, and any developer who understands the difference is worth a second look.

There are some new screenshots which look nicely DX9, and the concept art is decidely Rolemaster-ish, which can only be a good influence. There is also an imaginative teaser sequence here (let pages load fully, especially the last one). Make sure you read the recent interviews linked from the news page, which give (exciting) insight into where the game is headed.

Nice environmental graphics, but I have to say that the character modles do not impress at first look. perhaps they will redeem themselves in action.

Shame this failed but so many reason for it to made the difference.
