The Problem With Jedi
Gamespy have a three-part indepth look at the implementation of Jedi’s in Sony’s StarWars MMO SWG. Reading it has cured me of any interest in the game (the only thing I found intriguing was the possibility of being a Jedi). In predictable Sony form and contrary to the original design, unlocking a Force sensitive slot doesn’t require anything but months of “mind-numbing experience grinding”. Anyone who has played EQ will feel the same repulsion at the thought that I do. Still, I have friends who love the game, so it can’t be all bad.

Mind-numbing experience grinding if you’re a powergamer racing to unlock your extra character slot. I myself am quite enjoying the "holo grind", as it gives me incentive to try out other professions in the game that I may not have neccessarily given a second thought to otherwise, and some of them are quite fun to play.. You also get a badge for each profession you master.
I wouldn’t describe SWG as your average MMO.. it doesn’t play the same way as many of the other current MMO’s.. it’s a game for people who like star wars and want to play in a SW universe with other players.. in that respect, it’s a great game. It’s got bugs, it’s got imbalances.. but I’m finding it really enjoyable to play.. maybe that’s because I’m playing for the feel of the game setting, and not because I want to win the game!. =p
Also, in the next few months, they are implementing a series of quests to replace the current method of unlocking the slot.. they do listen to player feedback, it just takes a while for the wheels to turn and get things moving in the development side.
