Black Isle Gone
Seminal RPG game studio Black Isle Studios has been quietly dissolved by Interplay, and the title they were working on, Fallout 3, indefinitely shelved. BIS designer Damien Foletto posted to the company forums yesterday confirming the influential studio had been closed and all employees laid off. The death of Fallout 3 is doubly ironic for Australian fans who missed out on a local production of the game when Interplay pulled it from Microforte several months into production so they could produce it inhouse. It seems the game may now never be made, and its two predecessors, along with the Icewind Dale series, and Planescape: Torment, will be the only legacy left by one of the industry’s best PC RPG studios.

That sucks. Much sympathy to the devs. I hope they have new jobs to go to.
