An enterprising online gaming site took a handful of 10-12 year olds raised on 3D accelerated graphics and sat them in front of some classic console titles from the 70s and 80s. The comments from the young whipper snappers were less than complimentary. If these kids are anything to go by, the battle between gameplay and glitzy graphics is not being won by the good guys.

Hey, how about sitting them in front of some pathetic performers and seeing who they think is the best? Oh sorry, they are doing that already on Australian Idol voting for craptastic performers bwahahahaha.
Lol, and he’s me considering ordering some games from the US on CD because I only have them on 5 1/4 disk but lack the 5 /14 drive (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, etc).
Umm.. Did this little kids really say these things or was it all made up.. I guess at 13.. You can talk like that.. But Geez.. You couldn’t be that ignorant.. Oh actually.. I;m 25.. And I had pong on a system when I was 4.. I remember it.. Some system with 20 games.. All slight variations of pong..
Ahh Well.. Tell you the truth I liked those games.. I wouldn’t mind playing them again.. But I don’t think that only the graphics have changed and gameplay remained the same. I think the gameplay has developed. There are a coupkle of titles around that are pushing concepts into digital games that might have only existed on paper or table tops in the past. I love playing the old games in Shenmue 2 more then the main game "Shenmue 2" (Or what I like to book airing simulator, leaving catching simulator, temple cleaning simulator, walking about the street simulator, gambling addict simulator, etcetera )

Heavy editing in that piece - there’s no way those kids said all that as written. `The concept of a power-up hadn’t been invented yet?’ This kid’s 11 years old.
But anyway. Might have worked better if they got them on their own. There was plenty of peer pressure to say ‘that’s crap’. And they could have given them a bit longer with each game, or at least told them the rules. They didn’t get Tetris at all.
I too had one of those 100 games consoles that were all black and white and involved dots
either moving horiizontal or vetical, and Yes every one of those 100 games sucked.
I thought it sucked then, in fact Im sure most people thought it sucked. How can you get nostalgic
over a game involving Dots.
I think kids today are spoilt for choice. Things like Donkey Kong when they where first released
in Arcades where great to play and their direct competition was things like moon patrol.
So you have to look it in an arena like todays market, which is oversaturated.
at least in those days games were still developing and the kids who were playing them were getting the unique experience. Nowadays youngens are Blaz’e about special effects and 3d graphics.
