Mobile Internet Connection
An Australian web-developer currently doing a tour of the country has figured out a way to hook himself up to the internet on a broadband connection from anywhere on the road. With a 1.8m satellite dish connected to a wireless base station and modem, he can set up in 10mins and remain connected from a distance of up to 10 miles from his van. Of course, he’s rarely more than a few hundred metres away, sitting in a deckchair watching the latest outdoor vista while tapping away on his laptop. At $10,000 setup fee, and $150/month for 400kbps/76kbps, it’s not a bad deal if you want to combine travel with web development.
