KotOR = Golden Age ?

“Pop the new game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic into the Xbox console and what unfolds amounts to the best Star Wars movie since 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back.” - wired.com

Wired propose that we are at the dawn of a golden age of gaming, using KotOR as their prime example, along with less appealing sequels from EA such as LOTR: Return of the King. Their ‘golden age’ argument seems stretched pretty thin over a few key titles, many of which don’t exist yet. And it seems at odds with outlets like Edge magazine, who are bemoaning the lack of innovation in gaming. But here’s hoping.

Well.. I don’t know about you.. But KOTOR is just gonna be a taster for me.. The real MEAL is coming when "FABLE" is released. Now tell me that won’t kick KOTOR’s (insert your fave backside term here), citing at least 3 examples of why. Other than the fact it is star wars and you can do the light saber noise with your mouth when you play it.

http://www.xbox.com/fable/d…

1. KOTOR exists.

2. Black & White - promised the world, delivered an island. Fable may follow suit.

3. Bioware developed it. If you like their stuff…

3.5 "It is star wars and you can do the light saber noise with your mouth when you play it."

But really - they should both be great. Difference is I’ll be playing KOTOR on the PC, hopefully. And it will be such a relief to =believe= in the Star Wars universe, after the many flops and movie debacles.

Cool points. Esp #2, at least in Fable I won’t have to Spank my monkey for stress relief.

I’ve had a bit of a play with a friend’s import KOTOR over the weekend, it’s interesting (though I don’t normally play this sort of thing) to see how the story unfolds. The combat system is basically set and forget but its not an action game (my usual tipple). Game of the year? On Xbox at least probably. Must have? probably. As for Fable, that’s really a topic for next year isn’t it?

Fable is slatted for December according to http://www.xbox.com.au but who knows when Molyneux (Open your mouth and pronounce his name with some kind of well rounded slur). But there are still some other cool things around the corner.. "Voodoo Vince" and finally "world’s Scariest Police Chases 2", have this on PS1, if they take the elements of gameplay from that, and add it to the step forward in graphics on the XBOX, "Then buckle up, cause you’re in for the ride of your life.. " The original was set in a very well set out location (That looks a lot like Dooley County, if you watch the show too much like me) and had commentary by John Bunnel. The Crims you chase don’t have to be "PIT’d" to get them, you can just chase them until they are too freaked out and pull over. Unfortunately, there was no way to chase them till they made a mistake and drove into a light pole or wrap there car around oncoming traffic. http://www.hotgen.com/hotge… whoops, according to the developer’s site, not due till 2004. Bummer..

But what I pick up at game store is seldom the same as everyone else, my taste for gaming can be triggered by some pretty weird things. But back to the thread. KOTOR is on my list.. Post any BARGAIN deals you hear about the price. I’m betting the silly big chains will be selling this at a bloated price, but I’d like to hear of anyone that tracks it down for say 70 bucks.. Or even 80 bucks around launch date.

Hey hemidemisemiquaver, "I’ve had a bit of a play with a friend’s …" from Recent Comments looks so SUSS! ;)

Yes, I always squeal with delight when I have my hands on some Prime KotOR. I can’t wait to get my own KotOR in my hands and eagerly insert it into that big black box…

Suss +20

Well so far nothing molunux has ever hyped up has actually turned out to be anything more then a technically proficient somewhat amusing toy (see: hype leading up to black and white)

I agree B&W was nothing more than a gimmick that seemed to fasciniate my mate’s 6 year old kid.

Yeah.. But it was a cool toy to play with for a while once you got it out of the box.. and you can imagine building on that. And moving in that direction, but as an RPG. You’re character becomes tougher, tscars (etc) based upon your actions.. Much like your monkey et al. in Black and White.

But I’m sure, as with B&W it will be shallow in the respect that, being bad was no way to win friends and influence people and being good was always rewarded better.. Arrgg. Damn you Molyneux (said with a rattle around the pronounciation of ‘eux")
