Sony wins appeal against Mod-chips
“In this respect, we respectfully disagree with his Honour’s interpretation of the definition. We think it sufficient that Sony’s device inhibits infringement by rendering the resulting unauthorised copies unusable…For the reason first mentioned above, we are allowing the appeal and granting to Sony a declaration and an injunction as well as an order for costs.” - austlii.edu.au
The odd anomaly that meant that it was legal to mod-chip consoles in Australia but not elsewhere in the world seems to have been shut down by Sony’s successful appeal to the Federal Court.

I would not like to be footing the bill for Sony’s legal costs on this one.
But is the respondent now able to get around this.. If their customers were to buy the parts of the modchip and then have the modchip freely installed. Or would that be against this.. Not that I’d ever get a PS2, but I still think this stuffs over those who would have to get a PS2 for every region.
