Nintendo Australia’s 2003 GameCube lineup
Nintendo Australia have unvieled their plans for GameCube releases for the rest of the year. Quite a few highlights among the debris, including the GC-exclusive Metal Gear Solid, F Zero GX, Pikmin 2, the Broadband Adaptor and Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (That’s not me getting too excited, the exclamation marks are part of the title…)
July:
10th Speed Kings
10th Wario World (This one is getting good comments from those who have played it - Mario’s evil double in a 3D platformer apparently made by Treasure, the people behind more classic games than anyone could name)
14th Dead to Rights
17th SX Superstar
25th Lotus Challenge
25th Top Angler
August:
15th Finding Nemo
15th Gladius
28th XGRA
28th Product Number 03
September:
4th Super Bust A Move All-Stars (Go on…pretend you don’t want it)
18th Griffin : Bounty Hunter
22nd Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone (…why?)
25th Urban Freestyle Soccer
29th Disney Party
??th Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure
??th Freaky Flyers
??th Freestyle MX
??th F-Zero GX (If this isn’t racing game of the year I’ll eat my fat - and let’s hope the arcade link feature is kept intact)
??th Soul Calibur 2 (AKA “A strange sudden illness that makes me take a week off work for some unknown reason” - the GC version has Link as an unlockable character and the graphics are a slight notch below the Xbox version but still a mile beyond the PS2 game…GET THIS!)
??th True Crime: Streets of L.A.
??th WWE Wrestlemania X9
October:
2nd The Hobbit
4th XIII
16th Buffy the Vampire Slayer 2 (The first game was Xbox only, and quite good…any game with Alyson Hannigan in it is good by default)
30th Beyond Good & Evil
30th Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life (This should be interested, as the GameBoy Harvest Moon games were great and this has connectivity with the GBA…try it, it’s like a farming simulator and dating simulator in one)
30th The Simpsons: Hit & Run (Simpsons meets GTA…no no no no)
??th Dinotopia the Sunstone Odyssey
??th Kirby’s Air Ride (Second best racer of the year, surely)
??th Pikmin 2 (Please, everyone who says Nintendo just rehash their old games, take a look at this…and yes I know the irony of me saying that about a sequel, but I still think I have a valid point)
??th Pitfall Harry (Stop. Please, Activision, stop. It’s already dead.)
??th Sphinx and the Shadow of Set
November:
13th Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (It made a lot of people happy at E3)
20th Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu
??th 1080 Avalanche
??th Conan
??th Crash Nitro Kart
??th Haunted Mansion
??th Hot Wheels World Race
??th (Probably 21) Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (Well, ok, THIS will be the racer of the year…especially if the Broadband Adaptor is released…attention Nintendo Australia: You must release the Broadband Adaptor!
??th NHL Hitz Pro
??th Road Kill
??th Rugrats 6
??th Scooby Doo 3
??th SpongeBob 3
??th Spy Hunter 2 (The first one was pretty good, so this should be interesting)
??th Tonka Rescue Patrol
??th World Racing Mercedes Benz
??th Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour (Even if you hate golf, you would be a stupid person not to play this. It’s more fun than candy, and you loooove candy)
??th Mario Party 5 (What…already? I mean I love Mario Party but geez…)
Coming 2003 Broadband Adaptor (Don’t you dare be toying with us, Nintendo)
Coming 2003 Enter the Matrix
Coming 2003 Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (The first Final Fantasy game on a Nintendo machine in almost seven years…)
Coming 2003 Metal Gear Solid : The Twin Snakes (Metal Gear Solid 1 remade with new graphics, extra goodies and the MGS2 control system - should be tops if you can stomach paying full price for the game again)
Coming 2003 Nightmare Creatures 3
Coming 2003 Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut (Remake of the Dreamcast game with slightly improved visuals)
Coming 2003 Sonic Heroes (Why buy Sonic DX when this is coming out?)
Coming 2003 Splinter Cell : Pandora Tomorrow
Coming 2003 Star Fox 2 (Not to be confused with Starfox Adventures, which was Starfox in name only)
Coming 2003 Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3: Rebel Strike
Coming 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Initial word is that it’s like the old arcade game with cel shaded graphics…no word on there being a 4 player mode though)
Coming 2003 Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
Coming 2003 Viewtiful Joe (This is getting rave reviews from overseas - a cel shaded platformer that lets you rewind and fast forward time to get past obstacles…imagine Blinx but playable and fun)
Coming 2003 Knights of the Temple
Coming 2004 Masters of the Universe
Coming 2004 Tak and the Power of Ju Ju
…all in all, the future looks bright for the machine this coming year. Maybe I’m strange, but one or two must-have titles a month equates to a must-have system. The Broadband Adaptor has massive potential even though right now the only game that will support it is Mario Kart: Double Dash!! - maybe I’m just a sucker for all things Nintendo, but that will be worth it alone. Thoughts?
