I’d like to take Splash Damage’s , "Enemy Territory" off the dodgy free game list.. I mean, it’s like a mod, where u don’t even have to buy the original game. And it’s free.. Sure only 6 maps and two campaigns.. But I haven’t had as much fun multiplayer wise, since the good ol days of Tribes 2..

What was the article about free games a while back.. I’d like to see more served up to PC users..

Interestingly, the above title is being developed using the open source engine "Crystal Space" and is cross platform (ie, Linux, PC and Mac) AFAIK.

Open Source + MMO seems a good business model, afterall MMO money is made from the monthly subscriptions not the sale price.

I imagine that once Planeshift is released (it’s currently at version 0.2) it’ll have a fee attached, though the game will still be free (pick a meaning).

Had a look around this tonight. It’s very basic at the moment, but graphically and artistically it is very impressive. All you can do is collect rubies (those that aren’t bugged). The movement also feels very unbalanced, and you can’t invert the mouse yet. ‘m’ changes views, ‘’ goes to mouselook and back again. I heard they are planning to go beta in about a year - it’s pre-alpha at the moment. I hope they do, it’s looking promising.

it will take a while but i will be checking back periodically to see how much they add/extend the servers abilities. it can get laggy at the worst of times but good to wander about and check out at the best of them. not a huge map but as i say i’ll be back a bit to check the place out.

definitely promising definitely worth watching.

Planeshift is a really kewl game, although there’s not a whole world to explore, the graphics are superb and there are fun things to do.

you can’t do anything in the game but run around looking for crystals which you use to buy stuff which you can’t use. you are stuck in a city with retarded NPCs. the graphics are good but there is not completed quests yet and the game is not done yet so you will get "not available" alot.
