25 Dumbest Gaming Moments

What’s interesting about GameSpy’s latest feature, The 25 Dumbest Moments in Gaming, is not the cheap shots taken but the idea that gaming has enough of a history to reflect upon with sage (or in this case un-clever derogatory) commentary.

I think it’s a pretty interesting article. Glad to see some coverage of Paul Steed’s big mouth. Aaah.. those were the days.

I don’t mind the commentary.. But it really makes the guys at Gamespy sound like they (the people at Gamespy, not the games) are at least 50 years old.

I think the artlcle is titled incorrectly.. It should be "The 25 Dumbest Moments in Game Industry" .. Gaming is different to the industry.. That’s kind of like doing a similar article on film and saying "The 25 Dumbest Moments in Audience"

Wow, the Duke Forever debacle only made it to number 18…

I had it pegged for top 5 at least.

One of those dumbest moments happened a few weeks ago where I work, but the person responsible has landed on their feet. Sort of. Maybe.

I quite like the articles - while some of the comments are a little harsh, they’re often quite deserved.

What is the deal with 3D Realms? Where does the money come from? I mean, they haven’t done anything for years, and they’re still going somehow.

Monty, you should read this book —> http://www.amazon.com/exec/…

For a good look at the history of games, you’ll find that it does indeed have a history worth relfecting on. Or at least I did.

Yeah.. I remember playing Kings Quest 1 and thought that technology couldn’t go further… :) I never could’ve dreamed of games like "Metal Gear Solid 2" "Splinter cell" and so on…

Gaming sure as hell made itself a history… From simple text-based adventures to stuff like Half-life 2, a lot has happened…

By the way, Do you people remeber moving the letter ‘’a" through the screen, using your fantasy to create a dungeon? and thinking about how the goblin ( ‘g’ ) who’s binary ass you kick, would look like? Those were some cool times… Without those games, Diablo wouldn’t even exist… Makes me all nostalgic…:)

Those roguelike games are still great! They’re just pure gameplay, there’s no flashy graphics crap to get in the way of your enjoyment. (Not to mention that Diablo, as you mention, is a roguelike WITH the fancy graphics and crap.)

If anyone wants to get some nostalgia:

Many many hours of fun and goodness.
