One thing that's important to note is that this is from Sony Corp., NOT Sony Computer Entertainment. The difference is that the HDD / DVD recording / Ethernet / USB 2 Memory Stick etc stuff will not be considered part of the standard PS2 hardware system (though they can be supported by developers - we alread have PS2 games that use the HDD and ethernet). So please, no 32X / Mega CD jokes or cracks about how add ons never work. The PSX isn't an add-on. This is totally different :)

Yeah.. someone better tell those NCSA guys building supercomputing clusters out of PS2's that they've got the wrong boxes!!

What a *proprietary PCs* these days anyway? Even Macs are largely based on third party components. These PSX's are hardly any more 'proprietary' that many off-the-shelf VAIO desktops you could buy today... at least they should be able to run Linux.

The point is there's *no* difference expect that Sony (Nintendo/Microsoft) control the hardware. So you know that great console vs. PC debate started by the advent of consoles? The only thing that has changed is you've swapped an in-the-wild PC constructed from whatever components you choose to a PC built, packaged, and badged to the tastes of a particular company. Everything else is just semantics.

I have to say I think it's a great idea. I'd never buy a ps2 after having seen how shoddy they are (opinion my own ;) ) -- I went through 3 or so in about 6 months at work.

But this machine isn't a ps2. It's a new age VCR with more goodies than you can poke a stick at. It just happens to have a ps2 as well.

I bet it'll cost a mint.

GameCube still rules. ;)

Some one has to start to think of more gamecube game!Xbox has been workin alot harder and has began making 200 new games for Xbox in the next year! If Xbox keeps this up there might be a game war between Xbox and PS2 :)
