The geeky, overweight star of a homemade light sabre video which was found and leaked onto the internet is getting an iPod for his trouble. The bloggers at jish.nu have started a donation fund for the kid who videoed himself using a golfball retriever in a fantasy light sabre battle, and have already garnered almost USD$3000 in his name. They plan to buy the video’s subject, a 15 year old high school student from (french) Canada called Ghyslain, as many high tech toys as the final sum allows as payment for “all the trouble he has gone through to entertain us”. The video was initially leaked by other students in an attempt to humiliate the teenager, but has backfired, making him a new icon in the growing Meme (video underground) community. Previous icons include the Metallica Drummer. I love this stuff. Only the internet culture could first humiliate, and then make an anti-hero out of someone just being a kid.
