man thats pretty cool. this would be the, er, only job i fit the criterior for, aside from McDonalds!.

LOL!, if i weren`t on the other side of australia I`d apply, but for the moment i`ll just have to settle for being envious of the guy who does get the job :D.

p.s. always wondered what was happening about system shock 3….(dreams of one day making it)

SS3 Would be great to see.. But SS2 was so great.. They could remake that with a new engine and I would go out and buy it.

Did Irrational Games Australia make Freedom Force?

SS2 was make in the US right? So I guess SS3 would be too. But it’ll be so cool if it was made here in Oz! ;-)

QA Manager as an entry level position? that’s a new one..

I always thought a real QA manager Was someone who has been in QA for about 4 years…

You wouldn’t be a QA manager would you :P

The more I read the advert.. The more it sounds like they are trying to hire two jobs for the price of one. ?:(

monkeys rock!!

Good point. I’ll second that. But I sure hope they don’t do a reunion tour.

Of course it’s 2 jobs hence QA Manager "slash" Assistant Producer.

But it would make sense. If you’re a QA Mgr, you would have some say in producing game content.

You’ll find bugs and game content that wouldn’t fit into the game.

Anyway, I’ve applied for the job but I haven’t got any reply from them. :-(

Guess they were looking for people in Canberra mainly…

i have an interview tomorrow…

if it wasn’t for this site i probably wouldn’t have even known they were hiring

my gratitude is absolutely fucking boundless

Good luck weThree!

Badmiyamotofinger 5 years, 7 months ago

Hey weThree, how’d you go??

What kind of experiences did you have so that you had a chance for an interview?

I guess you live in Canberra?

thanks bruce

initial meeting was just with jon chey .. a get to know the applicants and their abilities sort of thing. i walked out feeling fairly confident that i was in with a chance. jon said there would be a call back this week some time for the next round.

waiting… waiting….. waking up between 3am - 4am every morning being tortured by my brain going over every tiny fucking detail of the interview … heart starts pounding every time new mail comes in

oh well, what can you do? just get on with todays work and hope all things come out good in the end

A prity it was in Canberra, after relocatting five times i think i have enough already :P

got a response

no go

this has thoroughly shafted my weekend

for a moment there i saw a light at the end of the tunnel …. back to the same old same old

maybe another opportunity will come my way, or maybe i’ll just go postal

Better luck next time eh? At least you got an interview meaning you were more experienced than me. :-)

Just curious if you don’t mind me asking, what experiences do you have, weThree?

QA officer and lead tester (non-games industry)

tech writer

coding - basic c\c++, vb, lotusScript + javaScript etc

db development and admin

photoshop (better than most, can’t draw though)

ui and web design (lots of)

some team management

+ bunch a misc and app scpecific skills that don’t really count for shit

Badmiyamotofinger 5 years, 6 months ago

Holy crap! That’s bloody good! And they still didn’t hire you?? Man that sucks.

no industry experience

counts for heaps with these guys

should spend my time modding rather than playing .. hehehe .. should spend my time doing heaps of other things rather than playing

.. but then you wouldn’t be a gamer. There are already too many people in the industry who don’t play or even like games. Playing games is the best thing you can do IMHO (it used to be counted much more highly than it seems to be now, though it depends on the company).

Agreed. Especially in a QA/Production/Design role. People who don’t play games have no business in the decision making end of the process. They’re the reason we have 98% chaff on the shelves.

It’s fine in low level tech and the like, but once you are making decisions on gameplay and whether the game works etc, play games or get the hell out of the way.

;)

sure, but nothing says "i can do this" like actually doing it

ie. modding

only a gamer is going to mod, and modders not only play but invest considerable time in learning how the game world works and how (in their opinion) to improve on it …

but when you have a family, work full-time, take courses of study etc then time is scarce. and with my free time i choose to play

Bad luck weThree. It is a gutting feeling to go for a games job interview and getting turned down isn’t it?

The interviewers I had at K**** S***** were kind chaps who didn’t want to let on I didn’t have the job. Way I would prefer it? Tell me I am not suited to my face so I can give the interviewers some feedback of my own and don’t say "We will call you soon" and have you waiting around in false hope. They know full well what they do to applicants emotionally.

I know of a guy who got turned down for a $5 per hour beta testing job and he is senior level designer for another games company.

So much for being interviewed properly bwahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Is the QA Manager position still available ? If it is I’m going to apply tonight.

I think Irrational will be using mostly the new Unreal Warfare engine for their future games, ROXOR!
