It’s All Going Just a Bit Too Far…

“Put an image of your game character etched into clear “crystal” next to your computer. Hang a canvas picture of your guild on the wall, with your guild motto inscribed at the bottom. Or imagine the delight on your friend or partner’s face when they open your gift of a beautiful rosewood plaque, emblazoned with their character’s full color image. For all the time, energy and emotion invested in the virtual world, shouldn’t there be something to show for it?” - Realm Crossing

A company is making personalized keepsakes depicting players’ EverQuest characters. It’s disturbing and yet, somehow, attractive…

No. It’s just disturbing.

I’m with splash on this one.

It is a interesting concept, when you actually find you have spend 70 days of your real life on a game in last 2 and half years, buying things like above don’t sound far strectched anymore.

No, I am actually not the worst, only play 2 to 3 times a week, the addiction of this game is hard to describe unless you actually experienced it.

Given the time invested in the game I can understand this sort of thing.

There are definitely better sites that do more then just take a screenshot, touch it up in Photoshop ("Canvas Texture") and spit it out.

I’m certainly not surprised - I barely know an EQ player who has not attempted to render their character tangible, everything from sketching them to collecting pictures of people who look as they imagine their character looks.

There’s something typically EQ about someone wanting to spin a buck out of it …

"your treasure can be kept as a secret cache, reserved for moments of private pleasure."

Hmm… That sounds almost perverted…

Well, if this is bad, wait for EQ2 to take hold. THEN i think EQ can officially become a religeon. I have a friend who quit his job because he wanted to level his character up faster. poor bugger didn`t realise his girlfriend wasn`t going to pay the $10 a month :S .
