Goodbye Big Xbox Controller

“Microsoft has announced that the Controller S will be replacing the original big black brick as the controller packed in with new European Xbox systems.” - ign.com

Bravo! Looks like Microsoft have (finally) given up on the original large XBox controller in favour of the Controller S. Well before the XBox was released I remember hearing Seamus Blackley at AGDC raving on about how well-designed the Xbox controller was… that it was based on feedback from hundreds of ‘real gamers’. Which must have been rubbish because it was so obviously huge, ugly and annoying to hold. More like it was designed to be just like the console itself rather than something that’s actually ergonomic. For me the PS2 controller is still the best by far… especially for fighting games etc.

I kinda like the big xbox controller better than the small one.. it’s about time that someone realised that we don’t all have the hand size of an 8 year old.

My only complaint about the large controller is the stupid button shape.. they really should have flattened those out, the thumb gets sore after a few hours hehe.

I prefer the original (large) controller too. The white and black buttons on the small controller are in a horrible position. Most people I know prefer the large controller.

I don’t find it ugly or annoying to hold - quite comfortable for me. Who cares if a controller is ugly anyhow? I’m not out to win a fashion award when playing games.. Usability is all that counts, and my biggest gripe is the same as Unifex’s, the round buttons are annoying, I prefer the ps2 controller buttons.

big one is better

where can i buy big ones?

It does not matter to me what the controller size is. All I care about is if the games are fun to play or not.

I like the big one better as well and I have both. I am just glad you can still buy the big one, I am going to pick some up just in case I break the one I have.

Big controllers r the best. Those small ones r crap

either way Microgates should pu the joy-sticks in the same place as Sony did on the PS2, and if the sue hell the lawyers could do with some more money. there is an idea for al us game developers open a side-line business Lawyers-R-Us and specialise in game company law
