Lords of EverQuest

In one of the more bemusing game design decisions made this year, Sony have announced an RTS based upon EverQuest, called Lords of EverQuest. I’m wondering why they would choose to jump into the already glutted RTS market with a world and background story which are neither original nor very compelling. The narrative behind EQ is hardly one of its strong points. Mind you, and bear in mind I don’t really like saying this, it looks and sounds pretty good: “ALL Units Grow in Power - every unit in the game can level up and grow in skills and abilities.”

Why you ask?

Because everyone that is sick of the glut of RTS games that also happens to play Everquest is likely to at least give it a go. Especially if they hype it enough and release a good demo. :)

I have to admit I haven’t truly enjoyed a RTS since Dark Reign but I’ll continue to explore the odd one and being crossed with a RPG this may not be that bad. Of course it could be a stinker but we’ll have to wait and see.
