Serious Numbers
Here’s some interesting numbers I skimmed from the Vivendi Universal website. Keep in mind that they may be a little overblown but I think they’re impressive none-the-less:
- Diablo II from Blizzard Entertainment: more than 5.7 million CD-ROMs sold since it was released in June 2000.
- Half Life and its extensions from Sierra Entertainment: over 3 million CD-ROMs sold.
- Crash Bandicoot series on consoles from Universal Interactive: over 24 million copies sold worldwide. The most recent title, Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex, sold 900,000 copies around the world. (Ty is the same or better. Teeheehee)
- Spyro the Dragon over 11 million copies sold. The most recent title, Spyro: Season of Ice, sold 700,000 copies worldwide in 2001.
- battle.net entered the Guinness Book of World Records 2002 as the world’s largest free online games service - logging nearly 10 million active accounts.
