DOA Volleyball…banned ?

BurnDirect, a local import site, have reported that Dead Or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball has received the equivalent of an R rating in Japan - over 18’s only. The screenshots make it look like an animated version of Ralph magazine, and this kind of rating could mean we don’t see the title here. Perhaps no great loss, but it still rankles to not be given the choice. The strangeness of banning even tame semi sexual content whilst allowing violence on every scale imaginable seems set to continue.

Well you all know I think DOA Beach Volleyball and it’s BMXing cousin are pathetic excuses for games… But it’ll piss me off no end if the choice not to play is not mine to make.

I wonder what genius thought of taking a fighting franchise and extending, sorry, Xtending it to Volleyball. DOAXBVB should probably be banned just because of the name :-)

I’ve actually heard from some people who’ve played preliminary versions of DOA Volleyball and they’ve given the gameplay glowing reports. I know we should ignore it on principal alone, but if it plays well…well…

Japanese censorship is so puzzling. I’ve seen pictures of women with a little pixellated square on each nipple.

I mean … whoa! What could possibly be under the pixellation? Who knows ??? /:P

On the other hand, this growing trend of whacking sexual content into an otherwise mediocre (or even good) game really does prove they’re pandering to the lowest common denominator …

While on the topic of Burn Gaming Station, has anyone here used their services? How would you rate your customer satisfaction?

I’m looking to import software from Japan and this is one of the places I’m investigating.
