PS2 Online News
Well Australian IT, Whirlpool.net.au and Gamesindustry.biz are all abuzz with the news of the official announcement by Sony that their online plans will come in 2003, and that we here in Australia should be hooked up by September 2003 (mumbled unenthusiastic yays - we hope they do better than that!).
On the flipside you apparently *will not* have to pay a subscription fee for the service, but just purchase the adapter, plug in and play (DEFINITE yays here!). The adapter should cost something in the neighbourhood of AUD$125.
Sony is doing deals with local ISPs to handle the content; I just hope the doomsayers at Whirlpool aren’t right with visions of gamers running out their 500MB cap in the first 6 hours of gaming. Telstra data charges may torpedo the whole deal yet, as is apparently what happened to Xbox Live. I back Sony and (shudder) Microsoft all the way on this one.
