Big Us Retailers Shun Pathetic Game

Several large US retailers, including Wal Mart and Toys’R'Us , appear set to shun Acclaim’s upcomming extreme sports title BMX XXX.

For those that aren’t aware of this pathetic excuse for a game, it was to be another installment in the Dave Mirra BMX series. That is until Dave and the rest of the pro riding fraternity apparently quit the project. Full nudity and prostitution seem the natural substitute for pro riders in a BMX title don’t you think?

I thought this sounded like a terrible game, but after checking out some first impressions on the net it sounds like perhaps they’ve cleverly copied some of the non-linear gameplay elements of GTA. A crapulous attempt by Acclaim to generate scandal I’m sure, but apart from the obsenity is it actually a bad game?

Of course… it’s typically American of Wal-Mart to get in a righteous uproar about nudity when the gory blood & guts WW2 games are still on the shelves.

Well, I’ll reserve complete judgement until I see the final breast size slider. But to me it sounds ridiculous. It’s a BMX game. I don’t see how tits and ass fit the genre.

;)

“reserve judgement?”

It’s been refused classification (ie, banned) by the OFLC (spotted the heads up on Atomic MPC). This is a bit of a tricky one - whilst the game deserves to be hammered for such a stupid stunt like a breast slider, does the OFLC have the right to ban it ? There’s no details on why it was RC’d, but crap though it might be, it’s another argument for an R rating for games. Not a very good argument, but an argument never the less.

Dead or Alive 2 had an option to increase or decrease your age - this consequently re-sized the female fighter’s breasts; the older you were the larger and more gravitiy-defying they got. I thought it was fairly obscene at the time, but then again they’ve gone and made DOA Volleyball now haven’t they. Putting a breast-size slider in a game seems almost mundane by those standards.

That rubs me the wrong way, so to speak.

While I am pretty sure the game will be pathetic, I should be able to play it if I want. Censorship shits me. Classification is fine. But censorship pisses me off.

Back to the “R rating for games” band wagon, people.

;)

As for SHOCK promotions campaigns.. OF COURSE ACCLAIM UK this time.

Burnout 2 was released October 11 in the UK. On this day if you were caught by a speed camera, please send your fine to ACCLAIM and they will pay it for you.

TRUE STUNT.. I didn’t make that up.
