Console Vision

The easiest upgrade to overlook for your console would have to be upgrading the video cables. A default composite connector gives a pretty average picture, and the modern consoles all have either S-video or component as an upgrade - providing your TV of choice has the input required. Firingsquad has a comprehensive lowdown: If you only remember one thing from this article, remember this: After the memory card, the single most important upgrade for your console is an upgraded video cable. Anyone who’s played a Dreamcast via VGA will know those are true words.

I use S-video for PS2 and Xbox and the difference is well worth it if you have a decent size set (the difference would hardly be noticable on a 34cm set). It’s a pity PAL Gamecube apparently has no Svideo support, only RGB (unless someone knows a way around this).

Man that was funny - I never laughed so much in ages. The article read like an advertisement for Monster Cable.

My favourite bit was when they got to the section on digitial cables and went on with the crap about jitter and tried to demonstrate it with a spaced out sentence.

But wait there’s more - then they go on about how an when comparing monster optical digital cable to a generic optical digital cable that there was a discernible difference on some piano piece they listened to.

They even suggested that on a high end optical cable you could really hear the difference in a wide range of things - I almost fell out of my chair

It was almost as good as a Danoz direct Ad.
