Xbox (kind of) Live

The Australian IT section has some speculation about the future of Xbox Live in Australia. Microsoft appears concerned about the download limits placed on most broadband users, and the effect that could have on take up of any online Xbox service.

Despite the usual Microsoft spin that we would be included in phase 2 of Xbox Live “some time next year”, it also sounds kind of grim for an actual release of the service here:

[Microsoft would] wait until the installed base of Xbox owners and broadband penetration were high enough in Australia
That could be a long wait…

Meanwhile, Sony are due to announce details of their service for Australia in October. When you think of the trouble Sega and their Dreamcast had with their online plans in Australia, it’s all sounding a bit dubious.
