I never thought it would happen to me

I am currently browsing the web at what can only be descibed as pedestrian speeds. How can this be when I’m an Optus@Home user you might ask. Well, it’s because I have been cut to a piddly 28.8 modem data rate as I have exceeded my 3 Gb limit for the month.

Alas, the honeymoon is over. No longer can I download to my hearts content with out even worrying about resuming software. No, now I have to scrimp and save every scrap of data. This will mean the inevitble install of the best freeware resuming software I can find and continual visits to the Optus “MY Account” page to monitor my usage. Not such a big deal some might say, but for someone who is used to browsing and downloading with complete impunity, it kind of sux.

When I did realize what had happened I called Optus to see if I could weasel my way back to my normal speeds. I failed. I even offered to pay some kind of fine or connectiong fee to be restored to full banwidth but all I got was the option to go to 5Gb plan till the end of the month which would cost another $60-70. Since the connection will be restored on Sunday I declined.

Now I’m just counting the days:(

Your going through what I went through when Tel$tra introduced their 3gig cap.

It sucks ey.. Go and check out iiNet .. I switched over to them just this week and they have been great so far. How can you complain with unlimited off-peak downloads? :D

Indeed a sorry day rob.

Perhaps when broadband has more users than downloading porn Senator Alston, better known as the world’s biggest ludite, may step in and help the industry.

*Get broadband for you fill of streaming multimedia content!

* download limits restrict multimedia content to a pethetic amount per month. Certain extra fees and charges and/or other means of screwing you, our customer, may apply.

Rob.. Rob…. hang on. Someone called something like that used to write for BigKid…

So, what you’re saying is that you are running at a simulated 28k modem off a broadband connection, meanwhile I’m running off a 56k modem. If I really wanted to, I could probably haul 3GB in a month, but I’m only paying $19.80 per month (plus phonecalls). What do you pay for broadband?

Only in Australia…
