Battlefield 1942 - You Have To See This
You may be a little jaded with WWII first person shooters, but don’t let that stop you trying out the new multiplayer demo Battlefield 1942. This is the most exciting MP game I’ve seen in a long time, and make DoD and Wolfenstien seem one dimensional. Players in 1942 can pilot everything in the maps - jeeps, tanks, planes (yes planes), aircraft carriers, destroyers, and anything else that moves. Of course the usual full arsenals of authentic weaponry are available, depending upon which class of soldier is chosen.
1942’s engine is perhaps the smoothest, most powerful to ever grace the genre. The physics are almost faultless. The designers have found a careful balance between realism and gameplay, so that flying a Japanese Zero feels like flying without being difficult to control with just a keyboard and mouse. Don’t like hand to hand fighting in the sand? Climb into an AXIS or Allied aircraft and bomb and strafe to your heart’s content - at least until someone mans a flak cannon and blows you out of the sky. Up to 64 players can hook up online in the demo to fight for an impressively realistic Pacific Island base as either AXIS or Allied forces. Don’t miss this one, it really has taken the FPS genre to another level. The 130 MB download is large, but worth it.
