ATI to nVidia: You were expecting someone else?
ATI exploded onto the web yesterdday with their latest and the greatest video card: the Radeon 9700. The card was used by id Software to showcase the Doom 3 engine at this year’s E3 and in intial benchmarks using the Unreal Tournament 2003, outperforms the GeForce 4 4600 by as much as 50%, all using tech that is not quite considered final, so these numbers could rise. It’s also the first card on the market with Direct-X 9 support.
AnandTech had the best round-up in my humble opinion, though both Tom’s and [H]ardOCP chipped in as well. The next nVidia chipset isn’t expected until November at the earliest, so ATI can expect to hold the #1 position for quite sometime.
