Freestyle emerges
Microsoft have announced a new version of Windows XP - Windows XP Media Center Edition. That’s the roll-off-the-tongue name for what was previously code named “Freestyle”, and brings enhanced media facilities to XP. The main thing it seems to do is allow you to lie on the couch and use a remote to operate your PC. This is part of the Microsoft push to have the PC control your home entertainment. XPMCE is only going to be available bundled with hardware that supports it’s new (or at least consolidated) functions - stuff like a TV receiver, PVR, Digital Video. So it’s not good on your custom-windowed neon-lit nForce-2 benchmark-killer. Wonder if the remote has a Ctl-Alt-Del button on it…
