Halo Coming to PC (& Mac!)

Well after years of speculation, assumption, and a general, collective whimpering by PC gamers as a whole, Microsoft today laid concerns to rest with the announcement that Halo would be brought to both PC and Mac by the middle of next year.

Bungie Software themselves won’t be handling the port (they’ve actually started work on Halo 2 for, you guessed it, Xbox), the duty falling instead to Gearbox Software who have previously handled ports of Half-Life, as well as the expansion for it ‘Opposing Force’, while another company called Destineer will handle the Mac conversion.

Personally, this weekend in between bouts of Warcraft 3 I’ll be finishing off Halo on Xbox. As much as I hate to say it, the “What about me?!?!” cries from people not owning an Xbox are warranted, as Halo is truly a wonder to behold. It does for the FPS genre what Half-Life did three years ago now; it makes you a believer.

Halo 2 this year. I feel a Woo and indeed, a Hoo coming on!
After going the through the single player modes of Wolf, MOH Frontline and Allied Assault, 007 Agent Under Fire, Jedi Knight II and Halo so far this year, I’d have to say Halo was the best overall(despite the Library levels). Will have to see how Metroid, Red Faction 2 and NOLF 2 stack up later this year.

This year? I didn’t think it’d be coming for some time…that’s pretty cool if it is!

No, just a combination of wishful thinking and an attempt at a Jedi mind trick. Halo 2 would have been big news at this last E3 if it was for this year.

Take anyone whos trying to get you to buy an X-Box (friend/website/magazine). Their number one reason generally is because its got Halo. Well it looks like that argument has gone out the window…

Looks like they’ll need to take those “Only for X-Box” stickers off the cases….

I’ll be very interested to see if the PC experience matches the Xbox. The general rule with ports is that the game is always better on its original system. Here’s hoping it’s brilliant across the board though, because it deserves to be.

The argument against having the Xbox though won’t be a valid one until the middle of next year…
