Get Blogged
If you’ve ever wanted to run your own webpage but lacked the technical knowhow to do it properly, Blogging is for you. A blog (the word is a contraction of “Weblog”) is generally a small one page personal online journal, but through the phenomena of cross-linking has grown into a massive worldwide community rivalling tradional media. Bloggers now get their news from other bloggers, many of whom are journalists, scientists, and business and academic professionals. They comment on news as it happens, others read it, link to the posts they have just read in their own blog, and engage in a rigourous discussion on every aspect of it - all before the mainstream media has had a chance to report it. According to the Guardian UK “In the technology world, the blog has become the standard news medium…“.
The real benefit of blogging is that due to the open source community it requires no technical knowledge to create or maintain a site. If you can click a mouse button you can do it. The community has established some format standards which allow free sites to offer not only automated setup and maintenance, but one-click remote skinning with templates made by other users that change the look and feel of a site instantly. Of course, if you want to you can customize and design your own without limitation. In short, a blog is what homepages should have been. It’s a big blogging world, but you could do worse than start at one of the biggest blog portals, Blogger.com
