Optus Introduces Download Cap

Australia’s second biggest Telco Optus has announced a soft download cap on its Optusnet Cable service, something it previously said it would not do. Under the new plan to come into effect on July 1, users who exceed their prescribed download limit will have their download speed capped to around 28.8k (uploads would not be affected). Download limits will vary according to tiered options similar to those introduced by Telstra last year. Subscribers will have to choose between four monthly plans:

550MB - $54.95
3GB - $69.95
5GB - $134.95
10GB - $265.95

Those of us already capped on Telstra cable feel the pain of Optus cable subscribers. There is now no real difference between Australia’s two biggest service providers, and broadband users have no choice but to submit to the change (though ADSL is slowly becoming available through smaller startups and is increasingly attractive). If it feels violating, well, it is. Thanks Nick.

Yes, and there’s nothing wrong with the Australian Broadband industry. Just ask Senator Alston.

Strange that every other country is moving towards uncapped unlimited usage broadband.

Bargain!

10GB - $265.95

Half the product we know for almost 4 times the price!

Onwards and downwards.

What a fucking disgrace. Shame Australia SHAME!
