Games to Blame ?

From the “guns don’t kill people, computer games do” file comes the latest attempt to blame games for criminal behaviour. This Sydney Morning Herald report about a guy who ran over a police officer tells the story. According to the Crown prosecutor, the accused was ‘’testing his car rallying skills” and was ‘’engaged in a real life re-enactment of the computer game” - The Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, apparently. It’s an awful event, but does bringing gaming into the picture really help things ?

I want to comment, but what’s the point?

Perhaps we’re seeing a slow decline in the number of journos who desperately and stupidly pick up on this gaming-is-evil angle to pad out an otherwise tragic crime story?
