New Poll!
For the second poll running the Xbox is the focus. Last month it was the launch, this month it’s the price drop. What next? Everyone who purchases Project Gotham Racing gets a free Boxter? Maybe…
The launch poll was fairly telling in that most people were impressed, but the machine as a whole had a lot to prove. The price drop itself seems to suggest that it just did not hit the mark for enough people, though at $399 it makes for a somewhat more enticing experiment in gaming.
While most will look to the ensuing race between the cheaper Xbox and the still $499.95 PS2, the X-factor in this equation is the launch of the GameCube less than a month away. Priced at $399, Nintendo were going to be under-cutting everyone with a pure games machine.
Now with Microsoft matching the Cube’s price, sporting a hard drive and a modem along with enough flair to attract the casual market, the GameCube risks going the way of the Dreamcast: an un-assuming system with un-paralleled software in an industry that no-longer lets a game speak for itself.

My only comment is that these recent polls have way too many choices… makes it hard to see a clear outcome.
Long live the PS2! :)
