X-Box for $399!?!?!

At 3pm today the announcement was made, the X-Box will have it’s price slashed to just $399 come 26th April, this brings it to the same price point as the Gamecube which is due for release 17th May.

But get this, for anyone who has already forked out the big bucks, Microsoft are offering these people 2 first party games of their choice and 1 official X-Box accessory for free!!! All the end user has to do is call the Microsoft Call Centre on 1800 148 894!

I tell you what, I am seriously considering buying one now, that’s for sure!

UPDATE: X-Box owners go here.

That means that they would be losing $450 on each console, it doesn’t make much business sense, but hey consumers will win either way.

Well they will lose heaps from the sale of their console……but then again…..this doesn’t look good for Nintendo…the $399 price point was a major advantage.

HOWEVER somtimes slashing the price so much within a month or 2 of general release can give people the wrong impression of the console. As in…..oh dear here comes another DC……hmm will be interesting too see how this turns out.

Either way I don’t mind getting 2 free games and an Xbox controller for nothing :)

What’s the quality of the DVD player on the XBOX? Considering it’s $450 with a DVD control, I’m very tempted.

This is very cool. I am sure many people who bagged the X-Box might be tempted this time.

The quality of the DVD is better than that of the PS2, that coupled with the fact that you can get Dolby Digital sound is a bonus.

Hmmm… looks like I’ll be getting the X-Box sooner than I had planned….

Friend of mine is now bragging that he’d predicted that this would happen - after their fairly dismal launch, he was saying that they’d stop advertising it and then do a relaunch later in the year. Even he though is suprised at the speed of it though…..

Why do people care if m$ are losing money or not? I hardly think that it will send them bankrupt. They are just try to flood the market with their hardware and recoup costs with the license fee’s from software. People can bag it as much as they like but at that price with the amount of titles that are appearing monthly for it m$ might end up showing the console market how they raped netscape. Can’t believe I am actually thinking of getting one now, I havn’t bought a console since the megadrive/snes days.

Coming back to the DVD player, can I play burnt CD’s, VCD’s etc on the XBOX (like a standard DVD), do all Australian DVD’s work on the XBOX, is it multi-regional? Basically what would a DVD player cost that offers all the DVD features of the XBOX?
Cheers

Just shows how deep MS’s pockets are. Same announcement for UK buyers, which is pissing off US consumers big time.
