Monopoly-A New Player?

There’s an interesting article on http://australianit.news.com.au about some possible competition to Telstra’s virtual monopoly on Australia’s telecommunication and Broadband network…

A CONSORTIUM of utility companies is investigating an assault on Telstra’s national telecommunications infrastructure monopoly.
–Fifteen companies, mostly large utilities, are listed as members of the consortium in the document, dated October 2001. Included are Aurora Energy, CitiPower, Energex, Energy Australia, Ergon, ETSA Utilities, Hydro Tasmania, PAW, Powercor Australia, PowerTel, SPI PowerNet, TransACT/ACTEW, Transend, Transgrid, and Western Power.
