EQ/Dark Age Chronicles

Well, I did it. It was not without some sadness last week that I logged into Norrath for possibly the last time, said my goodbyes to my guildmates, distributed some of my possessions to friends, and retired my brave Bard. There is always the possibility of returning as many have done before me (as Verant rarely delete inactive accounts), but due to my reasons for leaving it is unlikely.

I was surprised by what I felt afterward. If I ever had any doubt that online games form real communities, the bittersweet melancholy at being separated from the EQ world and people I had spent so much time with, removed it. I feel a sense of loss, as if I have left friends behind, which indeed I have. EverQuest was one of the largest and most colourful gaming experiences of my life. I am sorry it has ended, but it feels somehow apt. Every story must end, often so another may begin. And it’s a funny thing I say that…
Dark Age of Camelot

Arthur Pendragon is dead, slain by his illegitimate son. His realm is divided against itself, and in turmoil. Three warring factions struggle for supremacy. Excalibur is lost, though the Lady of the Lake enigmatically endures. Merlin is missing. Chaos and magic have been unleashed in a crackling tempest of ambition and conflict. Sword bites flesh. Spear cracks against shield. Blood soaks peat bog, down, and fen. Brittain’s pure emerald green and golden yellow is turning to sickly brown. If ever a world needed a hero Dark Age of Camelot does.

Or did.

Just recently in a quiet little medieval Hamlet somewhere south of Camelot, a young Saracen Scout entered Albion unannounced. He’s small in comparison to some of the legends walking the land. Actually, he’s uncomfortably short. He’s untried. His bow is green, and his leather armor squeaks like badly fitting new shoes when he walks, probably because it’s too big for him. He’s already spent far too much time sitting at the lathe making arrows and not nearly enough time shooting them. He could just be a recalcitrant, uppity little peasant presumptiously reaching from anonymity toward mediocrity. He may get himself, and a lot of other people killed.

But then, perhaps not…

Welcome to DAoC Monty and finally getting past EQ, I know the feeling in leaving EQ after playing it for so long :).
Sure EQ is a great game and will always be one. But there is more then 1 game, play them all and meet new friends.
