Metroid is shaping up, finally.

IGN Cube were recently shown 30 seconds of footage onupcoming GCN game Metroid. Metroid is being developed by Nintendo second party Retro Studios. Over the past year there have been many problems involving a game being “canned” and a considerable amount of staff being laid off. Usually this wouldn’t be of any concern, but as they are developing Metroid for the GCN everyone went INSANE!

There is light ahead though, judging from the impressions posted over at IGN and the fact that gaming god Shigeru Miyamoto has weekly meetings with the development team I’m no longer afraid. I STRONGLY advise that you go and check out the impressions if you’re interested in anything to do with the GCN or the Metroid franchise.

The editors may be excited, but those low-res shots don’t do the game justice.

Or at least I hope they don’t, yuck! Besides, let’s get to the good stuff! BRING ON MARIO KART!

I agree, the pictures are very dodgy….come on Nintendo release some high quality movies so we can all drool over the Metroid goodness.

I think Splash has gone over to the dark side…the Xbox :) AHH!

Mario Kart as always will be brilliant, however I think we’ve got at least a year until that arrives…pity. Also there were rumors going around that Sonic could be in the upcoming Mario Kart title. That would be interesting indeed.

This is what I would like out of the new Mario Kart title.

HEAPS of tracks, I’m thinking 5 cups with 5 tracks in each so thats around 25 tracks, plus 2 bonus cups with 5 in each. So you’ve got a total of 35 tracks. Then instead of the usual FOUR battle arenas we should get double that at least, 4 initally and then perhaps 4 that you can unlock after you’ve played the game for a while. Come on Nintendo you’ve got 1.5 GB to play with.

Of course then we need new weapons, heaps of new characters (as well as the originals of course). If you can somehow sneak in some GBA connectivity that would be brilliant.

Ummm..Mario Kart. Even though this was a Metroid thread :)

WTF! No dark side for me! Nintendo and Sega will forever duke it out for the #1 spot, Xbox be damned (even if I am looking forward to playing it =P).

I’m with you on the tracks, the more the merrier, though I would say that perhaps less is more, most would agree that the original SNES Mario Kart is superior to the N64 version.

Battle arenas, again, more would be good. But I thought that the N64 arenas were pretty lame. Well, not lame, but slightly uninspired, like the rest of the game was packed fool of goodness, and the arenas were an after thought that they didn’t have time to do properly.

I don’t know what I’d add as far as the weapons are concerned, I think the ones already in the series allow for a good balance of tactics and sheer luck. Likewise for the characters, they’ve already got a range from slow and heavy to light and fast, would bringing in more characters add to the gameplay or would you just get to run around in a different looking version of something already in the game? Turtle shell for thought…

And yes, GBA connectivity! Something more than a different way to control the game surely.

But Metroid? Yay Retro…pfft!
