XBox “Bundle” Gripe
Confirming what devo posted earlier in the week, Microsoft ARE forcing dealer’s to sell quite a few extras with their X-Box consoles. Unfortunately for us, these so-called “bundle deals” save you next to nothing.
MegaMart (a part of Myer) is advertising an X-Box bundle for only $949! That’s right! ONLY $949! You better get them quick before they, um, sell out. The deal includes an X-Box, a controller, Halo, Project Gotham Racing and the DVD Playback Kit. I find it VERY suspicious that a controller ISN’T EVEN INCLUDED with the main X-Box - $649 just for a useless heap of junk unless you fork out another $70 for a controller? That DVD Playback kit is $50, which is essentially just a controller. About the only reasonably priced aspect are the games, which go for about $100 each - pretty much the market standard.
The whole deal comes to $960, but you can get it for only $950! Although, I fail to see the bargain - you won’t be able to buy the components individually anyway, so what’s the point?
Microsoft are hoping for a good launch over here, but with such ‘great value!’ deals as this, I doubt that it’s going to be well received. Hands up who’s going to buy one?

Are you sure those figures are true? Because if they are, then MegaMart has to be one hell of a rip-off merchant. Here’s why:
At David Jones (in Sydney at least), $995 gets you the Xbox with *included* controller, an extra controller, memory unit, DVD playback kit, and 2 games.
Of course, this is if you pre-order with 24 months interest free on a David Jones card, which charges a whopping 21.9% interest p.a. outside of the interest free period. ;)
