Blizzard Go After FSGS

Following last week’s action against Bnetd, Blizzard have sent their lawyers after Net-Games, makers of the even more popular FSGS server, which Aus-1 among others use. A statement on the FSGS site says that the suit they received from Blizzard consisted largely of threats revolving around the Warcraft 3 Beta.

The unfortunate part of this story is that while FSGS allowed people to play Blizzard games on their Battle.Net emulator, they had not coded in support for Warcraft 3. Other titles from companies such as Westwood and Ensemble are playable on the FSGS technology, so this latest Blizzard suit could have far-wider reaching ramifications than the move against Bnetd.

Unlike Bnetd, FSGS was not open-source and it has a legtimate company behind it, thankfully with lawyers of their own to fight it.
