Any reason why PB won’t be bypassed a few days after the patch?

PB gets updated everytime you run it, getting around that problem. And the theory is that because PB is a company dedicated purely to anti-cheat measures, they have the resources to be continually monitoring for new cheats and updating the software accordingly - unlike the developers of the game itself who are more into bug fixes and new features.

Just as Anti-Virus software is continually updated to catch new viruses, PunkBuster will be updated regularly to detect new cheats…by providing timely, automatic, and seamless update patches to the PunkBuster Client and Server software, the majority of organized cheat dissemination efforts will be thwarted. Yes, there may be a few, very savvy hackers who figure out some way to pass the proper key sequences back to a PunkBuster Server, but as soon as the method “gets out”, it will quickly be squashed with the next update. We expect to be able to generate one update per day if necessary.

I thinks its a great idea, but is it only for servers?
if the onis is on the players thats a self defeating strategy.
I love multiplayer wolfenstein i think its going to get better
with new maps and mods.

Again, check the FAQ above. The quick answer seems to be that it’s a client/server system. So if the server is running PB and is set to ‘must have PB’, then only clients running PB will be able to connect. The user doesn’t have to do anything other than run the client component - the updating etc. comes from the server side.
