Console (Mis)History

Tom’s Hardware have posted a very odd and surprisingly inaccurate Console History, written by 3 ’securities analysts’ (aka $ guys). You can tell it’s written by finance people, not gamers, with quotes like the following:

We discern there to be three rival gaming traditions: two of them, text adventure and arcade, merging to become the first person shooters of Max Payne; and the latter tradition of simulation leading to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000, Gran Turismo and even Munch’s Oddworld.

Text adventure and arcade have merged to become the FPS ? Munch’s Oddworld a simulation ??? Also featuring the hitherto unknown “64-bit Playstation”, this is one article best avoided.

Hah - what a laugh.

Very entertaining. I wonder how much those guys were paid to speak pure bull**** ($1000/hour?).

Bang on - and the scarey thing is that these guys are responsible for ‘buy’ or ’sell’ recommendations on the stock market. Some ungamer investors will read that dodgy report and make some kind of judgement call on the relevant stocks - in extreme cases, plunging the losing company into all sorts of strife. Wonder if that’s what happened to Sega with the Dreamcast !!
