Organisers have released official details of this weekend’s Australian Game Developers’ Conference in Melbourne.
AGDC NEWS!
id Software to show Release Version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein at AGDC! Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id Software, is attending AGDC 2001 and will give the Saturday pm keynote. At this keynote he will be showing the new game with an explanation of key design decisions.
Support for Game Developers!
The Victorian Treasurer, John Brumby, will be officially opening the AGDC and launching the Victorian Government’s new blueprint for the Victorian computer game industry called Game Plan: The Next Level. He will also announce major financial commitments for the Victorian game industry including a world-first scheme to provide free game developer kits.
Schedule finalised!
We’ve finally got all the different speakers schedules and priorities settled and have a full conference timeline. Click the ‘Schedule’ tab at www.agdc.com.au Unfortunately Ray Muzyka was unable to make it due to increased travel times adding two extra days to his itinerary.
7 Days to go!
The bags are being stuffed. The prizes are arriving. Long hours are being worked. Lots of effort is going into making AGDC 2001 a success! We will be closing the online registration next Wednesday (7th Nov). You can still register on the door, but why not register now? Click the ‘Registration’ tab at www.agdc.com.au
Voting in the Federal Election Don’t forget about the Federal Election before you leave for AGDC. You can get an application for a Postal Vote from http://www.aec.gov.au/election2001/voting/pva/index.htm but DO IT NOW so the application gets to you in time.

You can do a pre-poll vote. Locations and times can be found at http://www.aec.gov.au/election2001/voting/pre_poll/index.htm NB. Delegates who are Victorian Residents can do an ‘Absent Vote’ at the Melbourne Town Hall (10 mins walk from AGDC) on the Saturday 10th November.
AGDC LANFest!
Would you like to play games 24 hours non-stop? The AGDC LANFest is LAN competition running from Lunchtime Saturday to Lunchtime Sunday! We are expecting up to 500 gamers to attend this event. Although Compaq have pulled out, we are still planning for 10 AGDC delegate PCs for conference delegates to play on. Ausgamers, Australia’s largest and best LAN event organisers, are conducting their national finals at this event. See www.ausgamers.com for details.
Closing Keynote!
The final keynote of this year’s AGDC will be a chat show style interview with Bruce Shelley (Ensemble Studios) and Todd Hollenshead (id Software). ‘Things we’ve learned along the way’

Major bummer. There were eight hosts last year, and that made the Suite Party one of the highlights of the conference in my mind.
Only one host this year ? Its not even gonna compare to last years party.
What a pity.
