Jedi Starfighter Announced
LucasArts have announced the first game to be associated with Episode 2: Attack of the Clones, entitled ‘Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter’, which builds on the success of the “critically hailed” Star Wars: Starfighter.
Personally, I don’t see what the big deal is anymore. Playing a game with the Star Wars lable on it has become akin to being Penny Arcade made the excellent point of reminding us all when Attack of the Clones was announced that the movie won’t suck because of the name; there’ll be a bunch of other reasons why it’ll suck.
Here’s the killer for me though - I was one of the few who didn’t mind Jar Jar. True! I thought he was funny! But it seems Mr. Lucas is suffering from something that the video game industry also finds itself afflicted with. You see Jim, can I call you Jimmy?
You see Jimmy, for all his sexy new effects, shooting on digital technology brought to him by the Jawa’s last time they were in Hollywood, he forgot to find a story to tell with it. Perhaps he was convinced that people would fore-go the story if the movie looked good enough, more likely however, he simply had his priorities in the wrong order.
So we can look forward to a new round of lack-lustre Star Wars products, capped off with the fulfillment of some kind of weird geek jedi fantasy which will entertain for years to come. The Phantom Menace is not the return of the Sith, it’s the destroying of the single greatest licence around, from within no less, by its original creator.
