Freedom Force Interview
Our West Austrlian friends at WAGZ have posted an interview with Jon Chey of Irrational Games Australia, talking about their upcoming games Freedom Force and console title The Lost, as well as their past hit System Shock 2:
System Shock 2 was a title that broke new ground and paved the way for a new lease of life for the first-person action RPG experience. Freedom Force seems set to achieve the same goals, albeit from a radically different direction, so what new areas of gaming do you think it will open up?
I hope Freedom Force can be described as a “real-time tactical RPG based on a detailed environmental simulation”. That sounds like a real mouthful, but what it means is that we have taken elements from a lot of different genres and made something new. The key elements are the detailed environmental simulation and the RPG components. I hope this will lead to further expansions in this direction both in our products and our competitors. I’d like to see more RPGs where you can interact with the world in meaningful ways other than conversation trees and rule-based combat systems.
