MidGard Preview
EuroGamer have an interesting preview up of Funcom’s next MMOG, MidGard - a game which will draw largely on their Norwegian heritage (read Vikings!).
The most interesting thing to note here is that the lead designer was not part of the Anarchy Online crew, but rather the brains behind The Longest Journey, one of the most original and likeable games in recent years. Ragnar Tornquist actually goes on the record here, stating:
I’m not a big fan of online games. Most current games are slow-paced and repetitive, with most of your time spent fighting monsters or healing your wounds ready for the next battle. But while Anarchy Online is a game very much based around conflict, Midgard puts more emphasis on building things rather than simply destroying them.
Very encouraging. Anyone remotely interested in MMOG’s should check it out as it sounds awfully promising.
