EQ Shadows of Luclin Interview
In a rather strange about face on matters related to EQ (he has sworn off it), Splash emailed me a link to a very interesting interview with Jeff Butler and Brad Quaid of Verant and Sony, talking about the upcoming expansion Shadows of Luclin. Now the more I hear about this thing the better it sounds. Not only does it sport a new (much improved) engine, greater detail, and a new class, there will be horses (they better not be faster than bards though @%$#), possibly a new communication system, and lots of other improvements.
Perhaps most interesting of all, there is talk of turning EQ into a franchise. I guess all this talk of Blizzard’s recently announced War of Worldcraft isn’t having the desired effect at Verant:
Ok, to start off, what do you think is the lifespan of EverQuest in its current form?
BM: Who knows? (laughs) We strongly believe EverQuest is still growing, we’ve got over 410,000 active subscribers right now, so it’s our opinion that EverQuest has a very bright future ahead of it, and we plan on supporting it long term. Not only that, but we consider EverQuest not just a single game, but a franchise, we’re getting into it for the long haul. It’s too early to announce anything beyond Shadows of Luclin, but we certainly have a lot - we’re thinking about this for the long term.
