Quake 4 Announced
Persistent industry rumours of Raven Software being named as developers of the next Quake game, Quake 4, were confirmed last weekend at QuakeCon 2001. idsoftware are busy with Wolfenstein 3D and it was already known they would be offloading the next iteration of their kingly FPS. Q4 will use the new Doom engine.
Raven is fast becoming one of the most serious FPS developers in the industry, with Jedi Knight 2, Soldier of Fortune 2, the Elite Force series and now Q4 in the pipes. In reality, another company taking over id’s flagship product represents the end of an era, or at least a significant change. It’s going to be interesting to see what a non-John Carmack Quake looks and plays like.
